Waratah Village’s
Christmas Lights Spectacular
Waratah Village Shopping Centre each year, celebrates the beauty and joy of Christmas.
...and 200,000 lighted bulbs later.
It is our pleasure to share with you the spirit of Christmas through our animated and lighted roof top displays and spectacular story card tenant windows.
Switch on! Christmas November 1999 was a day to remember for the residents of a small town nestled in the quiet suburb of Waratah, Newcastle, Australia. The Waratah Village Shopping Centre hosted a Christmas Lights Display that was second to none, and 150,000 people gathered at the centre to see a Christmas light show they will never forget.
Today, The Waratah Village Shopping Centre is known as the Christmas
Village, and it’s not hard to find.
We have been told that the easiest ways
to find us is to look toward the skies of Newcastle and see the reflections
of the dazzling lights against the night sky.
The Christmas lights celebration begins with a visually stunning multi-coloured cascading Christmas Tree, together with lighted sparkling heralding Angels in peaceful harmony entwined around lighted poles. Roof top displays of colourfully lit sitting Teddy Bears 3 metres high, a 4 metre illuminated Snowman with a black top hat, flashing Jack-in-the-Box, flying aeroplane, a synchronised lighted train, Santa in a hot air balloon and jumping reindeers are part of a child’s wonderland. The lighted Nativity Scene celebrating the birth of Jesus is a true wonder against a sparkling backdrop of stars. Our 6 metre high canvas Alpine Village nestled into the snow covered hills display a unique setting. The twinkling lights of the small houses in the hills and the Village Square creates happy memories for all ages.
Our famous Christmas Walk is a must for everyone ...our tenant windows
begins with an animated teddy bear picnic, scrumptious glistening fruit
ornaments of mandarin’s, apples and pears, lighted archways, imported
collectable baubles and ornaments, and the splendour of St Nicholas
throughout the ages. Victorian flying Angels, Christmas Stockings adorned
with pearls and a Christmas circus of animated bears, camels and tigers, make
beautiful memories for everyone.
Each year the Village adds something new and exciting, so can you guess what it will be this year?
Our Christmas displays and lights are made locally by a team of Novocastrian Elves, and 200,000 light bulbs and 10,000 metres of electrical cabling later... Lights Spectacular!
Christmas is a time of joy, for giving and sharing, for laughter, for coming together with family and friends. The Waratah Village celebrates this special time with music from the local choirs of Newcastle, truly making this a joyous Christmas village.
